Discover the best of the west

From the moment you arrive to the time you leave, St George relaxes the senses in all the right ways. Perched on the banks of the mighty Balonne River, it is the perfect base from which to explore our Beautiful Balonne. Whatever your style, there’s a spot just right for you. The Beautiful Balonne is an oasis in the outback. There are eight waterways traversing Balonne’s landscape; that’s why it’s called ‘River Country’ and the ‘inland fishing capital of Queensland’.  Follow the trail of the explorer, Major Thomas Mitchel, learn more about cotton growing on the cotton trail, take a boat cruise down the beautiful Balonne River, and see beautifully carved emu eggs at the Unique Egg. Or, you can go and visit Bollon and see emus walking down the main street. Of course, there are all those rivers to explore and then you can finish the day at an award-winning restaurant or relaxing with a drink in the gardens of the Riversands Winery.

Other towns in the Balonne Shire

Don't forget to visit Dirranbandi, Hebel, Thallon, Bollon, Nindigully and Mungindi while you're in the Balonne Shire.
